How to measure Roller Shades
Inside Mount Measurement
How to Measure Width: Record the inside width at the uppermost section of your window frame.
How to Measure Height: Measure from the top of the window cavity to the sill at three points and take the largest number.
Sizing Guideline: Your shade width should be at least 0.5 inches shorter than the window opening; round down when needed.
Understand Side Light Gaps: Inside‑mount shades have edge gaps because fabric must be slightly undersized for smooth operation. Even with blackout liners, these openings will let in peripheral daylight.
Outside Mount Measurement
Figure out your intended coverage width. Add 2‑4 inches of overhang on both sides for better privacy and light blocking.
When measuring height, pick your installation position for the roller assembly, then measure down to the windowsill or your preferred bottom‑end position.
