How to measure Venetian blinds

Precise sizing lays the foundation for great-looking Venetian blinds. Choose either inside-frame or outside-frame mounting first, then take measurements following our directions to achieve a proper fit.

Inside Mount Measurement

  • Mounted inside the window cavity to deliver a clean integrated profile; a minimum depth of 2 inches is needed for the headrail.
  • Measure width across top, middle and bottom of your window opening. Take the narrowest reading and round down to 1/8-inch increments for proper spacing.
  • Measure height from the top recess to the sill, rounding down moderately to avoid fabric dragging.
  • Venetian blinds stack at the top when raised. Double-check overhead clearance above your window so stacked slats do not block sightlines.

Outside Mount Measurement

  • Mount to wall or ceiling outside the window frame. It maximizes coverage, hides unappealing trim and fixes problems with inadequate window depth.
  • Figure out your target coverage width and extend 2-3 inches on each window side to reduce light leakage.
  • Measure downward from your installation spot (generally 4-6 inches above the frame) to your intended finishing point; choose to end below the sill or at floor level.
  • The sizes you submit will be produced exactly as provided. No further adjustments will be made on our end, so measure carefully.
