How to Measure for Roman Shades?
Taking exact measurements is critical so your drapes fit well and function flawlessly. Two popular installation approaches are available: inside mount and outside mount, and both come with distinct perks.
Two Primary Mounting Options:
Inside Mount (Figure 1):
Install within your window frame to deliver a streamlined built‑in aesthetic while leaving window trim exposed. A minimum 2‑inch depth is necessary for successful mounting.
Outside Mount (Figure 2):
Mount it beyond the window frame to conceal imperfections and deliver a striking visual effect. It suits practically all‑window types, including windows with shallow or overly deep sills.
Measuring for Different Mount Types:
Measuring for Inside Mount Shades:
Width: Obtain interior‑frame width readings from three spots: top, center and bottom. Go with the smallest value to ensure your shade fits neatly within the frame.
Height: Measure internal frame height on the left, middle and right sides. Select the maximum reading so the blind fully covers the window vertically.
Depth: Verify frame depth to make sure there is sufficient room for mounting brackets as well as the window shade.
Measuring for Outside Mount Shades:
Width: Determine your required overall width so the shade stretches past the window frame to cover trim and leave room for installation brackets. We recommend adding a total of 6 inches (3 inches on each side) for enhanced light‑blocking performance and privacy.
Height: Measure downward from your selected upper mounting position to your preferred endpoint, which can be at the window sill or further below. Add 3 inches above the window opening if you want superior light filtration.

Things to keep in mind:
Choose a steel tape instead of soft cloth tape to get highly accurate sizes.
Record values down to the nearest 1/8 inch. Never approximate your measurements.
Inspect for obstructions. Account for window handles and hardware that might block your blinds from working properly.Plan space for brackets.
Make sure there is enough room above the window frame, especially when installing an outside‑mount shade.
How to Measure for Curtains?
Step 1: Measure & Mark for Rod Installation
Existing Rod
Measure the rod length and record.
New Installation
Position the rod above and around the window frame based on your desired visual effect.
Height: Mount 6–10 inches above the window frame to create the illusion of taller windows. Mark lightly with pencil or masking tape.
Width: Extend 6–15 inches beyond each side of the frame for proper curtain stacking. Mark placement points accordingly.

Understanding the Standards for Curtain Fullness
Adequate fullness ensures a luxurious, voluminous appearance.
Pleated Styles
Built-in fullness of 200–230% delivers rich, structured volume.
Specific Ratios:
Pinch pleat, tailor pleat, inverted pleat, goblet: 2.0x fullness
Triple pleat, triple tailor pleat: 2.3x fullness
Step 2: Calculate the Curtain Panel Width
Flat Top Styles
(Grommet, Rod Pocket, Back Tab, Tab Top, Flat Panel)Formula: Panel Width = Rod or Track Width × Fullness ÷ Number of Panels
Pleated Top Styles
(Pinch Pleat – Double/Triple, Euro Pleat – Double/Triple)Formula: Panel Width = Rod or Track Width ÷ Number of Panels
Ripple Fold Styles
Formula: Panel Width = Rod or Track Width ÷ Number of Panels（Note: Calculation uses top width. Bottom width will be approximately 2.1 times larger.）

Step 3: Calculate the Curtain Panel Width
1. Calculate the Curtain Panel Length
Flat Top Styles
(Grommet, Rod Pocket, Back Tab)
Panel Length = Distance from rod top to ceiling (or desired height above) + Rod to floor distance + Bottom finish length
Pleated Top Styles
(Pinch Pleat – Double/Triple, Euro Pleat – Double/Triple)
Panel Length = Desired top height to floor + Bottom finish length.
2. Ripple Fold
Panel Length = Track bottom to floor distance + Bottom finish length
Bottom Length Options
Floating: Subtract ½ inch from floor length for clearance above floor
Kiss the Floor: No adjustment – panel meets floor exactly
Puddling: Add 2–4 inches for deliberate fabric pooling at floor

· Use a steel tape measure, measuring to the nearest 1 inch in width and length.
· Measure each window and doorway individually.
· Your custom drapery will be made to the width and length you specify.
